DLP, LCD, Laser – what kind of video-projector you need
There are various projectors to choose from, but most important is to know the purpose. Some need a presentation tool in business rooms and others require a large video screen behind on a stage. First things first.
An LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) video projector utilizes a light source that passes light through 3 LCD Chips (red, green, and blue) to create and project images.
DLP (Digital Light Processing) projectors employ a combination of a color wheel and chip that contains microscopic tilting mirrors. The light passes through the color wheel, reflects off the mirrors and is then projected on a screen.
The most modern combination is a Laser Projector with a DLP Chip. Very efficient light output with low energy costs.
The Brighter the Better
LED, Lamp and Laser are the common used light sources for projectors. We provide every kind, to offer you the right projector for your needs.
LED (Light Emitting Diods) are very small and can be assigned to emit just one color (red, green or blue). With their small size, projectors can be made quite compact, but the downside is the weak light output.
A Lamp has a much higher light output than a LED. However, lamps still waste a lot of energy, even though only the primary colors are actually needed. By that they produce a lot of heat, necessitating the use of a fan to keep it cool.
So is a Laser (Light Amplification by Simulated Emission of Radiation) the best alternative? They provide a wider color gamut, have an increased light output and a longer source life. But as you can already imagine, the laser is the most expensive source of light.
